HOW WE STARTED

Alyssa (Lou) Schwitzer and Kent Goodroad, musicians and music educators in Minneapolis, MN, have seen the transformational power of music in people’s lives. From young people growing into a deeper sense of self identity and confidence, to adults finding meaning in playing for the first time or coming back to something they’ve always loved. These experiences have inspired them to create a music program featuring group classes and private lessons in voice, piano, guitar, bass, and songwriting. The classes feature a wide variety of musical styles including (but not limited to): classical, jazz, pop, country, and musical theater. Contribution with Every Class

Embedded in the full cost of each class or lesson is a contribution to a scholarship fund for students needing/wanting scholarships. Students can apply for a quarter, half, or full scholarship while scholarship funds are available. If interested in receiving a scholarship for programming, please email an inquiry via the Contact page.

Teacher Co-op Model

Teachers at LK-Arts Academy are paid per class or lesson. Once a teacher has been with the organization for 1 year teaching or 5 classes, they are able to become a part owner of the academy.

Music making with VAlues

LK-Arts Academy works in partnership with organizations that are explicitly anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and committed to lowering our carbon footprint. In collaboration with the Center for Leadership and Neighbor Engagement, Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, among others, we are working to create the world we want to live in and leave for the next generation.
